Relay For Life

Well, it has been another busy weekend. Owen has been tracked out and is spending much of his time perfecting his skateboarding tricks. Friday evening the boys went to a bday party at the bowling alley and then went back to their friend’s house to play in the great spring evening weather we have been having. Yesterday we had our Relay for life and another bday party. It was warm and sunny 84 degrees for the relay. Jamie & I and the boys had a lot of fun. In addition to the fun, the relay was a smashing success. As of last night, our team raised over $8,400 and the relay raised over $190,000. A very special thanks to mom & dad (Dan & Deb), Uncle Mick & Aunt Gerri, & Bob & Lisa McLearie for their generous donations. Your long distance support of our new relay means a lot! It was very similar to our relays past in MI, just a little bigger. We did do something really fun. We had a miss relay contest. Men dressed up as women, had a talent show, and then solicited donations. The “woman” with the most donations is crowned miss relay. We had 3 participants from our team. Although we definitely had the hottest “women”, they did not win the coveted crown. The video above is a clip of their talent portion. The girl in the picture with me is one of the boys on our team who participated in miss relay. He is the same kid in the video playing Frisbee with Justin. Although we had a perfect day, the evening had a somewhat different story. Just before the luminary ceremony was to start, some dark clouds rolled in with some lightning. Everyone (including us) was scrambling around to clean up before the storm. The ceremony got moved into the gym for safety reasons. We did not stay and just packed up to go home, which I think was a good thing since the boys were exhausted. Although they were calling for spotty storms last night, I don’t think we ever got a drop of rain.
Until next time…

Fish On! (Again)

Today we took out the rod & reels and headed out for more big fish. The boys slayed them. I think it was a little more relaxed, without the pressure of the competition from yesterday. We went over to some friends of friends who have some acreage and horses and a fish pond. Everyone caught a ton of fish. A good variety too. We caught crappie, bass, some huge bluegill & huge catfish. Justin pulled in a huge catfish but it broke the line just he got it to shore. It was a good time.

Size Does Matter!!!

Well, it's been another busy week here. On Monday we went to "Z" Pizza for a fundraiser for our Relay team. On Thursday we went out to dinner for Jamie's Bday. Yesterday we went to Justin's school for the Cowboy Roundup. Last night, Jamie & I went out to the Durham Bulls home opener. We met up with a couple of our Michigan comrades. We had a great time. The weather was great & somebody actually hit the bull with a homerun ball. I'm not sure, but I think they get free steaks for a year.

Today was the big day. We woke up bright & early. Packed up the boy's tackle boxes & their new rod & reels from santa and headed over to Lake Pine for the annual Apex fishing derby. The day looked very promising. Both boys had a great 1st cast (they must get that from their grandpa) and Justin had a bite on his first cast. Then it slowed down. Justin would get a bite here & there, but just couldn't land a fish. Owen's frustrations were showing and his patience was being tested. Then, in a matter of a couple of minutes he landed two fish. The 1st fish was small, only 5 inches, but the second one was a whopping 5.5 inches. It fought hard and Owen's hard work paid off. If you look closely in the picture you can barely see it. He was awarded 1st place for the largest fish in his age division. He was very excited. He was also offered a sponsorship from Pro Bass. After we have our attorney review the contract we will decide if we should let him sign on.

After the big morning we went to Justin's friends b-day party. Now I think I'm just going to relax a bit.

Until next time...
